this is me
  • I rarely get headaches (although this fact isn't so true now that I have a daughter). As a young man in my 20s, I could go for a year without getting a headache.

  • I've never been drunk in my life. Really. Or high or unconscious.

  • I grew up just 200 miles from New York City, but I've been there less than a dozen times. I'd be lost there. But I know Phoenix, San Francisco, Los Angeles and Honolulu like the back of my hand.

  • Twenty-four years before I got my pilot's license in Honolulu, I wrote that I wanted to fly in Hawaii. It was a third-grade writing assignment; I was in a school thousands of miles from Hawaii. My mother recently discovered the handwritten letter in a stack of old papers.

  • Just a few days after I arrived in Hawaii in 1989, a babbling crazy homeless man I'd never seen before sat near me in King Kalakaua Park in Hilo. He talked to me and called me by my first name ("Christopher", not just "Chris"; he could not have possibly known my name or my preference for the long version). It was a surreal moment that you sometimes see in movies such as Grand Canyon that show babbling crazy homeless people as disoriented prophets.

  • The Canadian government once thought I was a terrorist or a drug dealer. Well, not really, but close.

  • I've been "Crushed and Rushed" by my friends.

  • I've seen some freaky coincidences.

  • Freaky Coincidences
    Oh, Canada
