A car bomb exploded about 20 miles west of Baghdad this morning. Here is a link to the AP release.
I was just a mile away from the explosion. Our building shook, and things were shaken off the walls. It was not subtle. It was much more violent than the worst earthquake I've ever been in (and I was in the Northridge earthquake). It was extremely loud and it sounded much closer than it was.
We saw smoke, but I don't have any pictures of anything. We scrambled for a minute, trying to see how we could best support the Marines. We heard gun fire, but it wasn't clear who was shooting. It was by far the most exciting day I've had here.
