One of my hobbies is germinating, growing and selling palm trees. I especially like palms from the world's deserts (such as Mazari palms from Afghanistan, North African date palms and Mexican fan palms). I also enjoy cultivating rare and endangered native Hawaiian palms such as the Pritchardia napaliensis which is indigenous to Kauai.
I have come to especially appreciate the date palms of the world (the genus Phoenix). Dates were mankind's first crop. The tombs in the Egyptian pyramids contained date palm seeds. Date palms are celebrated by Muslims, Christians and Egyptians (they are mentioned in the Bible and the Koran; Mohammad himself owned several date farms). Dates palms are shade, food and medicine. In the 1991 Gulf War, US Marines were surprised to find surrendering Iraqi troops willing to trade their dates for drinking water.
This is a placeholder page. You bet.
