Morey (in the foreground, on the left, in the two-piece white bathing suit) approaches the waters of Waikoko Beach with one of her friends from Island School. The Island School kindergarten class was on an overnight camping trip to the north shore of Kauai, Hawaii. Waikoko is on the extreme western edge of Hanalei Bay. The skies were hazy because of volcanic fog that had drifted all the way here from the Kilauea Volcano on the Big Island. This is not an aerial photo. Instead, it was taken from the muddy, rugged Kalalau Trail, which quickly rises up several hundred feet from the trailhead. This is Ke'e Beach on Kauai's beautiful north shore. The water is so clear, you can even see the shadows of the swimmers on the ocean floor. Ke'e Beach pronouced KAY-eh is literally at the end of the road on the north shore. Just go to Kauai and make a right. Enjoy hiking? This is Hanakapiai Falls on Kauai's beautiful north shore. It's only accessible by a 4.25-mile hike, half of which is on the world-famous Kalalau Trail. Here, a hiker helps out two tourists by taking their picture. As you might imagine, it's perpetually misty and breezy here; the falls are almost a fifth of a mile tall.
