Morey is caught in midair during a leap off a chair in the family room. Normally, we don't encourage her to jump off the furniture, but when she does it over and over and over just before bedtime, well, think about it...! I took this in the Waimea House. She was performing for Kirsten and me and my mom Julie who's visiting this month. This photo was taken on Monday, February 21, 2005 and added to the web on Monday, February 21, 2005. Morey plays in the little house attached to her swingset. I took this photo in the backyard of our house. This photo was taken on Sunday, February 20, 2005 and added to the web on Sunday, February 20, 2005. Image copyright 2010 polihale.com

Morey was actually playful and happy when I took this picture. But for some reason, at this particular moment, she looks emotionless or perhaps a little sad. But I still like the photo. She was two years and seven months old when I took it, but I think she looks older here, certainly her baby days are gone. She was playing in the little house attached to her swingset. Morey helps make breakfast. With the help of a stool, Morey actually enjoys stirring pancake batter. Now all we need her to do is clean the dishes and we'll be set. I took this on a Sunday morning in the Waimea House. As of January 2005, we plan on ripping out this kitchen soon to install new appliances, cupboards, and countertops. Make even knock out a wall or two. But in the meantime, it's a great Sunday morning family get-together spot. I was making dinner late one Friday afternoon after I got home from work. To keep the house cool, we sometimes close the curtains in the afternoon, which, unfortunately, kills our great ocean views. But luckily, I happened to walk outside just in time to see the sunset. I grabbed my camera when I saw the sun sitting in the sky like this. It was hazy to the west, and for about 90 seconds, the sun glowed an eerie hot pink. A tour boat sailed by, probably on its way back from the Na Pali coast. I was fortunate to have my camera nearby. I took this picture from the deck of my house on the westside of Kauai, Hawaii. This photo was taken on Friday, January 28, 2005 and added to the web on Friday, January 28, 2005. If you visit my website often, looking for new and interesting photos, it might be tiresome to find yet another sunset. But I never get tired of seeing them. My days can seem stressful or chaotic sometimes, but somehow, in the warm wonderful evening air, standing on the deck of our house, life once again becomes peaceful. More pragmatically, I also enjoy these moments because they justify our big mortgage. Kirsten and I recently had some trees cleared that obscured our view of the westside of Kauai. The island of Niihau can be seen in the far distance. Incidentally, the colors in this photo were not enhanced; this really is the scene captured by my camera. Rain, rain, go away! Wow! I live on the westside of the island of Kauai, Hawaii. First, take a look at a our house. Note that we've had some trees removed that blocked our view. In the distance, on the shore, you can see the smokestack to the old Kekaha Sugar Mill. This photo was taken on Friday, December 31, 2004 and added to the web on Friday, December 31, 2004. Lee shows Morey how the top of the car goes down. It's a Mercedes-Benz SLK230 convertible. Lee gave it to Joe for Christmas 2004. I took these photos in the driveway of our house in Waimea. Kirsten and Kimberly are in the background. This photo was taken on Thursday, December 30, 2004 and added to the web on Friday, December 31, 2004. Image copyright 2010 polihale.com

On the morning of Christmas 2004, Joe went out to the deck of our house in Waimea to enjoy the view. He visits my wife and me so rarely usually we go to his house. I offered him my binoculars because he was particularly interested in some features of Kekaha, which is only a mile or two away. Soon enough, Morey came out to the deck and wanted to see for herself. Morey has looked through my binoculars before, and she can even identify the things she sees. The binoculars are 20x80 power. Holding them by hand produces a shakey image, so Joe is using a monopod. Kirsten tickles Morey on Christmas morning at our house before the rest of the family arrived. If you're a parent, you'll understand how episodes like this can go on for quite a long time. Morey will squeal with laughter over and over and over. Getting tickled seems to never get boring sometimes. While Joe and Lee were getting ready to leave our house on Christmas Day, Morey saw the chance to get in the driver's seat of Joe's new car. Lee Morey's grandmother gave her husband Joe a Mercedes-Benz SLK230 convertible for Christmas. His debut drive was up to our house in Waimea on Christmas morning. It's hard to see, but behind the Mercedes, in the shadows of the carport, is another German convertible, my piece of shit Volkswagen Cabrio. I bought it new in 2001, but I've beaten it up pretty good. Plus, little things keep breaking. I know, it's hard to believe quality Mexican workmanship has defects. Maybe next year I'll be the one getting a Mercedes??? This photo was taken on Saturday, December 25, 2004 and added to the web on Sunday, December 26, 2004. Image copyright 2010 polihale.com

Kirsten gets Morey ready for her first evening of Trick-or-Treating. Morey's initials spell MAB and it wasn't until she was a few days old before someone realized that in Shakespeare, Mab is the Queen of the Fairies. So, of course, Morey was dressed as her namesake, Mab. I took this picture at the Waimea House in Waimea, on the island of Kauai, Hawaii. Morey relaxes in the window seat in her bedroom on a lazy Sunday afternoon. Kirsten encouraged me to take this picture at our home after Morey put on a new outfit and had her hair pony-tailed well, sort of. Another splendid non-stop sunset in the western skies -- ah, the simple pleasures of life. Kirsten and Morey and I were sitting on the deck of our new house Saturday evening when I took this photo. Believe it or not, the brilliance and saturation of the colors is typical. I didn't use any filters and the colors in this image have not been enhanced in any way. This is the way the camera saw them. Of course, I used a 350mm telephoto lens to capture the scene, and I've noticed that zoom lenses appear to saturate sunset colors. Anyway, this is the nightly show from the Waimea Heights subdivision on the island of Kauai, Hawaii. The northern coastal plains of Niihau can be seen on the horizon at the left. Lehua Rock is clearly visible on the right. In the foreground, you can see the smokestack from the old Kekaha Sugar Mill in Kekaha. Compare this photo to {43190|this one}. At the time this photo was taken, Kirsten and Morey and I had been living in the Waimea House for just five days. We love the big deck. We watch every sunset. At night, it's cool and breezy and you can sit out under the stars. Besides the ocean view, we have an unobstructed view of Waimea Canyon Road as it ascends towards Waimea Canyon. I sat out on the deck and waited for a car to go by so I could shoot this long exposure. The Big Dipper is directly above the road. This was taken, of course, in Waimea, on the beautiful westside of Kauai, Hawaii. This photo was taken on Saturday, August 28, 2004 and added to the web on Monday, August 30, 2004.
