Baby Morey by candlelight. Morey woke me up around 4:00 a.m. for another feeding. Once we were both awake and fed, I shot some pictures of her with candles. She wouldn't sit still for the long exposures, and she kept threatening to put her fingers in hot wax. I took this on the dining room table of our house in Poipu, island of Kauai, Hawaii. After Morey was born, she spent a month in a hospital in Honolulu. A few hours before she was discharged, I took this picture of her with Lau Chun and his wife. Lau is a master impressionist painter. His paintings hang in museums and galleries around the world. Some critics consider him to be the world's greatest living impressionist. He paints constantly at his studio in Koko Head, so much so that he constantly has paint on his hands. Truly, I've never seen the man without paint on his hands. But here at the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit at Kapiolani Medical Center, all visitors are required to scrub their hands clean before touching any babies. Even Lau himself admitted that it had been a long time since his hands were this clean. Lau is also Morey's Godfather.
