Joe helps Morey look through the binoculars on Christmas morning at our house in Waimea. This photo was taken on Sunday, December 25, 2005 and added to the web on Saturday, April 19, 2008. |

Morey is caught in midair during a leap off a chair in the family room. Normally, we don't encourage her to jump off the furniture, but when she does it over and over and over just before bedtime, well, think about it...! I took this in the Waimea House. She was performing for Kirsten and me and my mom Julie who's visiting this month. This photo was taken on Monday, February 21, 2005 and added to the web on Monday, February 21, 2005. Morey plays in the little house attached to her swingset. I took this photo in the backyard of our house. This photo was taken on Sunday, February 20, 2005 and added to the web on Sunday, February 20, 2005. Image copyright 2010 polihale.com |

Morey was actually playful and happy when I took this picture. But for some reason, at this particular moment, she looks emotionless or perhaps a little sad. But I still like the photo. She was two years and seven months old when I took it, but I think she looks older here, certainly her baby days are gone. She was playing in the little house attached to her swingset. After cooking a big meal at the end of a long day, my mother-in-law Lee relaxes at the dinner table. I took this at her beach house in Kekaha. In the background, Morey talks to Joe. Morey helps make breakfast. With the help of a stool, Morey actually enjoys stirring pancake batter. Now all we need her to do is clean the dishes and we'll be set. I took this on a Sunday morning in the Waimea House. As of January 2005, we plan on ripping out this kitchen soon to install new appliances, cupboards, and countertops. Make even knock out a wall or two. But in the meantime, it's a great Sunday morning family get-together spot. Lee shows Morey how the top of the car goes down. It's a Mercedes-Benz SLK230 convertible. Lee gave it to Joe for Christmas 2004. I took these photos in the driveway of our house in Waimea. Kirsten and Kimberly are in the background. This photo was taken on Thursday, December 30, 2004 and added to the web on Friday, December 31, 2004. Image copyright 2010 polihale.com |

On the morning of Christmas 2004, Joe went out to the deck of our house in Waimea to enjoy the view. He visits my wife and me so rarely usually we go to his house. I offered him my binoculars because he was particularly interested in some features of Kekaha, which is only a mile or two away. Soon enough, Morey came out to the deck and wanted to see for herself. Morey has looked through my binoculars before, and she can even identify the things she sees. The binoculars are 20x80 power. Holding them by hand produces a shakey image, so Joe is using a monopod. Kirsten tickles Morey on Christmas morning at our house before the rest of the family arrived. If you're a parent, you'll understand how episodes like this can go on for quite a long time. Morey will squeal with laughter over and over and over. Getting tickled seems to never get boring sometimes. While Joe and Lee were getting ready to leave our house on Christmas Day, Morey saw the chance to get in the driver's seat of Joe's new car. Lee Morey's grandmother gave her husband Joe a Mercedes-Benz SLK230 convertible for Christmas. His debut drive was up to our house in Waimea on Christmas morning. It's hard to see, but behind the Mercedes, in the shadows of the carport, is another German convertible, my piece of shit Volkswagen Cabrio. I bought it new in 2001, but I've beaten it up pretty good. Plus, little things keep breaking. I know, it's hard to believe quality Mexican workmanship has defects. Maybe next year I'll be the one getting a Mercedes??? This photo was taken on Saturday, December 25, 2004 and added to the web on Sunday, December 26, 2004. Image copyright 2010 polihale.com |

My wife Kirsten embraces our daughter Morey at my mother-in-law's house in Koloa on the island of Kauai, Hawaii. We were there for a Christmas Party, and arrived a little early. So Kirsten and Morey just curled up on a couch with a DVD player and some children's videos. The furniture and ambience in that house always lends a warm, exotic feel. A few days before Christmas 2004, my daughter's daycare center had a party including a Santa Claus at a nearby building. I've always liked the way they bring a group of children outside: they all hold rings and the rings are attached to a rope. A low-tech solution that seems to work well. Morey is at the far left, in the pale green dress. I took this picture at PMRF, which is on the westside of Kauai, Hawaii. Normally, the skies here are always blue, but even Hawaii gets wintertime storms. This photo was taken on Tuesday, December 21, 2004 and added to the web on Thursday, December 23, 2004. Chief Burns sits with Morey for a quick photo at the 2004 Annual Chief Burns Turkey Fry. I took a photo of them together last year, but never posted it online. I should find it and show the two side-by-side. It's amazing how much she's grown. This photo was taken on Thursday, November 25, 2004 and added to the web on Monday, December 6, 2004. Morey plays with Buddy Dog. The dog easily has three times Morey's bodyweight, but acted surprisingly gentle with her. I took this at the 2004 Dennis Burns Annual Turkey Fry. Buddy is Dennis' dog. In the background, you can see a boat that Dennis bought two days beforehand. He claims he has no idea why he bought it. Morey sings 'Happy Birthday' in the kitchen of the Beach House in Kekaha, island of Kauai, Hawaii. Earlier, her grandmother Lee had set a slice of pumpkin pie down in front of her. We have cake and pie so infrequently that Morey naturally assumed it was someone's birthday. This photo was taken on Sunday, October 31, 2004 and added to the web on Sunday, October 31, 2004.
