Non-stop ocean and sunset views... this is the Waimea House in the Waimea Heights neighborhood on the westside of Kauai, Hawaii. Kirsten and I bought this house in June 2004. As of July, we're still ripping out the floors and doing other improvements. The lawn needs help. The Kekaha Sugar Mill can be seen in the distance beyond the agricultural plains. I use a 15-foot monopod to lift my camera into the air to get these cool above-ground-level shots. This photo was taken on Friday, June 11, 2004 and added to the web on Monday, July 12, 2004. A panoramic picture showing the view from the deck of the Waimea House. Actually, this is a composite, made up of several photographs but stitched together with software. This is a very wide image, larger than your screen. To appreciate it, be sure your browser's image resizing feature is turned off {30159|How Do I Do That?}. Just a few miles up the road is the {41248|Waimea Canyon} state park. Kirsten and I bought this house in June 2004. It's located in the Waimea Heights neighborhood on the westside of Kauai, Hawaii. On a warm, clear breezy night, I drove down to the ocean in Poipu, island of Kauai, Hawaii. Some campers at the south end of the beach started a bonfire. I got up close and took some long exposures, hoping to catch the trails of the embers as they flew away. But the photos weren't that great. So I stood off in the distance and took more long exposures to capture the glow of the fire as it illuminated the surrounding trees. The longer exposure exaggerates the fire's glow; it really wasn't as intense as it appears here. The trees swayed in the seabreeze, resulting in the slight blurring of the branches. I like that the stars in the nighttime sky came through in the exposure. This is Shipwrecks Beach. This photo was taken on Sunday, May 30, 2004 and added to the web on Monday, May 31, 2004. I was out driving around on Sunday night, the day before Memorial Day 2004. The moon was bright, the skies were clear, the air was warm. It was a perfect night to be out in a convertible. I was out taking some long exposure photographs in and around the Poipu area on the southshore of Kauai. On my way home from Poipu Beach, just for fun, I took this photo showing the street lights and the dashboard of my VW Cabrio. I was driving along Poipu Road heading towards Koloa, steering with my left hand and holding the camera with my right. You can see my neck in the rearview mirror. You can also see Fritzchen, the little Mainzelmännchen doll on my dashboard. He's been my co-pilot for 16 years, riding along in three different vehicles, across the country and even back and forth to Hawaii many times with me. You can see a few surfers in the water, enjoying a sunny Sunday morning at Poipu Beach Park in Poipu, island of Kauai, Hawaii. I went to the beach early while it was still almost empty. Baby Morey and me. Unfortunately, she's looking away. Her aunt Kimberly bought her the swimsuit which I think is more kitsch than cute, but what the Hell do I know?. Kirsten took this picture of us on a bright wonderful Saturday afternoon at Poipu Beach Park, Poipu, island of Kauai, Hawaii. My colleague Brian, who bogarted the front seat of the helicopter on the interisland flight from Niihau to Kauai. I took this picture over the Kaulakahi Channel in an Augusta 109A helicopter. The pilot sitting next to him is Dana Rosendal, a contract pilot from Safari Aviation in Lihue. This photo was taken on Friday, February 20, 2004 and added to the web on Saturday, August 21, 2004. Early one evening, Kirsten and I drove to some private grazing land up in Kalaheo, on the island of Kauai, Hawaii. We were there to help a friend who'd gotten stuck going off-road. While we were there, some very curious horses came by and carefully checked me out in the driver's seat of Kirsten's truck. I was feeding them Cheerios from Morey's baby bag.
