Kirsten and me out on a Capt. Andy's whale watching boat, along the south shore of Kauai, Hawaii. Capt. Andy's is my preferred sailing company on Kauai there are dozens to pick from. Kirsten knows some of the crew and they always give a good show. This photo was taken on Saturday, January 22, 2005 and added to the web on Sunday, January 23, 2005. Tourists watch the sunset on a whale watching tour boat. The conditions were perfect for the elusive Green Flash, but unfortunately, we missed out. I've only seen the Green Flash once on Kauai in five years. Kirsten and I had a babysitter that evening and spent a few hours relaxing out on the waters of Kauai, Hawaii. This photo was taken on Saturday, January 22, 2005 and added to the web on Monday, February 14, 2005. Image copyright 2010 polihale.com |

On the westside of Kauai, we've had tremendous rainfall in the past three days. My wife Kirsten drove through downtown Waimea on New Year's Day 2005, and was surprised to find the streets flooded. She stood near the Captain Cook Monument and snapped several photos from which I created this composite panorama. Be sure your browser's Image Resizing Feature is turned off so you can see the entire image {30159|How Do I Do That?}, but then you have to scroll left and right to see it all. The stitching of the pictures is a little imperfect, but you get a view of Waimea Road from Big Save to the First Hawaiian Bank building. Pretty impressive rainfall. Lee shows Morey how the top of the car goes down. It's a Mercedes-Benz SLK230 convertible. Lee gave it to Joe for Christmas 2004. I took these photos in the driveway of our house in Waimea. Kirsten and Kimberly are in the background. This photo was taken on Thursday, December 30, 2004 and added to the web on Friday, December 31, 2004. Image copyright 2010 polihale.com |

Kirsten tickles Morey on Christmas morning at our house before the rest of the family arrived. If you're a parent, you'll understand how episodes like this can go on for quite a long time. Morey will squeal with laughter over and over and over. Getting tickled seems to never get boring sometimes. My wife Kirsten embraces our daughter Morey at my mother-in-law's house in Koloa on the island of Kauai, Hawaii. We were there for a Christmas Party, and arrived a little early. So Kirsten and Morey just curled up on a couch with a DVD player and some children's videos. The furniture and ambience in that house always lends a warm, exotic feel. Kirsten in the middle, in front of the tree conducts a Chinese Auction at a Christmas party at my mother-in-law's house. Hawaii has a unique spin on the 'Secret Santa' game. Guests bring wrapped gifts which are randomly redistributed. Everyone draws a number and unwraps their gift in order. After unwrapping, any gift can be exchanged for any other unwrapped gift. In other words, if your gift isn't as good as someone else's, you can steal it. But then someone later can steal it from you. Everyone still goes home with a gift, but the best gifts can change hands several times, usually ending up with those last to unwrap. I'm not sure how the name "Chinese Auction" came to be, but that's what they do in Hawaii for Christmas. Kirsten gets Morey ready for her first evening of Trick-or-Treating. Morey's initials spell MAB and it wasn't until she was a few days old before someone realized that in Shakespeare, Mab is the Queen of the Fairies. So, of course, Morey was dressed as her namesake, Mab. I took this picture at the Waimea House in Waimea, on the island of Kauai, Hawaii. This is Morey at the end of the slide at the Kiahuna Plantation pool in Poipu, island of Kauai, Hawaii. Kirsten's hands are visible, but she's underwater. This is one of Morey's favorite places to swim. This photo was taken on Monday, October 11, 2004 and added to the web on Monday, October 11, 2004. Image copyright 2010 polihale.com |

Kirsten and Morey relax in bed together and watch children's videos which obviously keeps Morey distracted and entertained. This photo was taken on Monday, June 28, 2004 and added to the web on Tuesday, June 29, 2004. Image copyright 2010 polihale.com |

Near the center of this photo is an oceanfront house with a green roof. This is the estate where Kirsten and I got married in the summer of 2001. This is in Kekaha Town on Kauai's westside in Hawaii. The main highway in the center is Kaumualii Highway. The road one block back is the Old Kekaha Road to the Sugar Mill. It wasn't until I looked carefully at this picture that I realized something. Do you see the big blue-roofed oceanfront house with the swimming pool at the lower left? Kirsten and I attended a party there in early 2002. Kirsten's mom Lee is friends with the owners. It was in their circular driveway where we first announced that Kirsten was pregnant with Morey. I took this aerial photo during a flight around the island with Bruce.
